Title: Patient-Inspired Innovation

Synopsis:

Health services the world over have difficulty coping with existing demands. The future is even more challenging, particularly for long term conditions and the ageing population. One way forwards is to identify the unmet needs of patients of all ages that may be susceptible to a technology-based solution and involve inventors, academia, small & medium enterprises and  business angels to develop novel solutions that provide more cost-effective care and are wealth creating. The formidable resources of the NHS are key to mounting the necessary clinical trials and providing the clinical evidence. The National Institute of Health Research Brain Injury Healthcare Cooperative is one mechanism for delivering this concept for patients after brain injury.
